#FE-11 - "Once Upon a Time: The Way America Was" - by Eric Sloane - Hastings House Publishers, 1982 - First Edition, with DJ - $125.00 Hardbound in green cloth, stamped in silver on the front cover and spine, this book measures 7.5" x 10" and has 64 pages. A NearFine copy in a Good dustjacket. The book celebrates the American Heritage, and reminds us that it's real meaning differs from what we usually hear or see at political rallies, in church meetings, on TV, or in advertisements. The American heritage is not inventions or products. It is nothing tangible. It is an invisible spirit. Charming drawings of Sloane's fine collection of early American artifacts, tools and furniture, illustrate the text which describes how we used to live, self-sufficiently, on land, in homes, and among things we had built and created ourselves, and which were treasured as they were passed down through generations... all physical examples of the underlying American spirit and ethic of hard work for the sake of the satisfaction of a job well done, and providing an enduring way of life for one's family! The condition of the book is NearFine, in a Good dustjacket. There is faint bumping or rubbing at the corner tips and edges of the spine. The un-price-clipped jacket is missing a 1.5" x 5" piece at the bottom of the back panel, which extends around the bottom of the spine, a small chip showing on the front. We have inserted a photocopy from an identical inside page to show how, with just a bit of work, this could be repaired in such a way that it would scarcely show. A couple of other tiny edge chips and closed tears are the only other faults to the jacket. The interior of the book is like new, crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete! See our photos of the front and back panels of the dustjacket. All in all, a very nice copy of a very scarce book, and at a price considerably less than any other listings we were able to find! |
