#IL-2 - Aubrey Beardsley - The Man and His Work - by Haldane MacFall and with 12 illustrations by Beardsley and a photographic portrait as frontispiece - $65.00 The remarkable illustrated biography of Beardsley, published by Lane who at that time held the greatest body of Beardsley's work, including some of his earliest sketches. Beardsley died of Tuberculosis at age 25, having created a great mass of remarkable drawings over a period of slightly more than 5 years. Published at London by John Lane, The Bodley Head, Limited in 1928. Hardbound in green cloth with a paper label on the spine, the book measures 9" x 11.5" and has 111 + xiv pages. 11 glossy plates, including the portrait mentioned above are bound-in and in addition to the above page count. The other two illustrations by Beardsley are that of the title page and the tailpiece, both of which are printed on the same paper as the text. Page edges are deckled and the top page edges are colored blue-gray. The condition is Good+, with bumping and rubbing of the corners and edges of the spine. The spine is sunned and the label discolored. An extra label in pristine condition is bound-in at the back of the book! Covers sunned at edges and slightly mottled. Binding is tight and hinges are strong. Interior pages are VeryGood+, with just a hint of toning at the top edge, but otherwise clean, tight, bright and complete. |
