#RH-1 - Conquest of the Country Northwest of the River Ohio, 1778-1783, and the Life of Gen. George Rogers Clark - Vol. I - by William Hayden English - Sold only as a set at $300.00 for both vols.

The first of two volumes which were created to be introductory to English's History of Indiana. They are filled "With numerous (biographical) sketches of men who served under Clark and full list of those allotted lands in Clark's grant for service in the campaigns against the British posts, showing exact land allotted to each." Other interesting sections include a list of British soldiers captured during the campaigns, Major Bowman's Journal and Clark's Diary as they relate to the campaigns during the above period!

Published at Indianapolis by The Bowen-Merrill Company in 1897. Hardbound in dark green cloth with a paper, paste-on label on the spine. This volume measures 7.25" x 9.75" and has 578 pages. Illustrated with over 70 b&w maps, drawings, portraits, facsimile documents and facsimile signatures of the principal persons in the accounts. The entire text and illustrations are printed on a high-quality, glossy paper! Ex-library, the only evidence of this being library stamps on the inside back cover and adjacent flyleaf, and remnants of the due-date slip and pocket on those same pages. Two smudged areas in the margins of the title page may be from removed stamps. The overall condition is VeryGood, with light bumping and rubbing of the heavy buckram cover, and light chipping and rubbing of the paper label on the spine. The binding is a bit loose, but the interior pages are intact and generally clean, tight, bright and fully complete.
