#IL-8 - "The Decameron of Giovanni Boccaccio", translated by Richard Addington and illustrated by Rockwell Kent - Garden City Books, 1949 - $80.00 Hardbound in green and tan cloth, stamped in gold on the spine, this volume measures 7" x 9.75" and has 562 pages. It is in NearFine condition in a VeryGood dustjacket. For centuries The Decameron has stood as the classic example of ribaldry, impregnable to the varying tastes and taboos of time and tongue. In these marvelous tales the lusty humor is always controlled by a keen sense of social satire, and the picture of the times presented is wonderful reporting of a fascinating era. To illustrate these stories has always been a challenge to artists. Rockwell Kent, one of the acknowledged truly great American artists, has brought to the task a sincere enthusiasm for the subject as well as his characteristic attention to detail. As a result, his drawings amplify and illuminate the text to singular advantage. This edition is graced with 32 of Kent's color illustrations! The condition is NearFine, with very slight bumping and rubbing
at the corner tips and extremities of the spine. Otherwise the
book is like new... crisp, clean, bright, tight and complete.
The dustjacket is in VeryGood condition, rubbed at the corners
and edges, with a couple of short edge tears, a smudge and a
pencil mark on the back panel, and some short creases around
the tear at the top of the spine. Otherwise it is complete and
fully intact. |
