#NF-11 - "Headhunting in the Solomon Islands" - by Caroline Mytinger - First Edition - Macmillan, 1942 - $39.00

Hardbound in maroon cloth stamped in black and gold on the front panel and spine. The book measures approx. 6" x 8.75" and has 416 pages. The front end-papers display a map of the Coral Sea from Bouganville to San Cristobal. The book tells of an "expedition" mounted by two young women who went to the islands of the Coral Sea in the SW Pacific to study and capture images of the primitive Melanesian people of that region "before their way of life disappeared forever". This book is not only a recounting of the adventures of these two women and the people they encountered, but also a testament to the rare adventurous zeal of two women embarking alone on a somewhat naive journey, in a time when women's liberation was the pursuit of only a few scant handsfull of women! The text of their adventure is laced with charm, humor, insight and glossy reproductions of Ms. Mytinger's paintings of some of the people they encountered along the way. Note that this adventure took place prior to WWII, just before the entire region became a major focal point of the war in the Pacific... an event that changed the people and the region forever!

The condition is VeryGood+, in a Good+ dustjacket. The book shows only very light bumping and rubbing at the corners and edges. The dustjacket has one chip at the UR corner of the front panel, and a couple of small tape stains just to its left. One other tape stain is at the top of the back panel next to the spine, where a closed tear was repaired. The binding is tight, and otherwise both jacket and book are crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete with NO other faults!
