#NF-9 - "Highland Dress" by George Collie - First Edition - Publ. by Penguin Books, London, 1948 - 24 Color plates - $38.00 Hardbound in paper-covered boards, this book measures approx. 5" x 7", and has 32 pages of Highland history, descriptive text related to the manner of wearing the great kilt, plus a brief commentary about each of the plates. This is followed by 24 pages, each of which is dedicated to one of the color plates originally drawn and painted by Robert Ronald McIan. The plates depict highland dress and tartans for the following clans: Stewart, MacDonald of Clanranald, MacGillivray, Grant of Glenmoriston, Gordon, Drummond Skene, Rose Mac Naughton, Matheson, Macneill of Barra, Sinclair, Colquhoun, Macpherson, Ogilvie, Lamont, Cameron of Lochiel, Buchanan, Menzies, MacAlister, Mackay, Robertson, Forbes and Ferguson. The condition is Good+. There is the expected bumping and
rubbing, with the boards just showing at the corners and one
small area at the bottom of the spine. There is a 1/2"
x 1" scuff at the LL of the front cover, near the spine.
Otherwise, the binding is tight, the hinges intact, and the
interior pages are crisp, clean, bright, and tight, just as if
it were fresh from the publisher! |
