#RH-3 - Collections of the Illinois State Historical Library, Volume VIII, Virginia Series, Volume III - George Rogers Clark Papers, 1771-1781 - Edited with Introduction and Notes by James Alton James, Northwestern University - $75.00 This volume details Clark's activities in "the west", prior to and during the Revolution, from April 14, 1771 to October of 1781. The great majority of this book consists of the actual and complete text of numerous letters to and from Clark regarding his efforts in Kentucky and the regions Northwest of the Ohio River, commonly known as the Northwest Territories. Published at Springfield, Illinois by the Trustees of the Illinois State Historical Library in 1912, this is a possible First Edition. Hardbound in blue cloth stamped in gold, it measures 6.5" x 9" and has clxvii + 715 pages. In addition, there is a 1935 page from the Louisville, KY Herald-Post which has 3 columns of the genealogical ties of Gen. George Rogers Clark. Also a piece of notebook paper with genealogical charts for the family. Both of these are laid-in loose. There are 5 sepia-tone illustrations, each protected with a vellum leaf printed with the caption. A former owner's name is written in ink on the front free flyleaf, and a couple of numerical notations are on the inside back cover, one in crayon, and one in pencil. The overall condition is VeryGood+, with bumping and rubbing of the heavy buckram cover, and mild sunning of the spine. The interior pages are clean, tight, bright and complete. The book comes in our mylar protective jacket. An outstanding reference! |
