#F-7 - "The Link" by Philip Mac Donald - Stated First Edition - Publ. by The Crime Club, Inc, Garden City, NY, 1930 - $175.00 Hardbound in black cloth, stamped in red on the front cover and spine, the book measures approx. 5.5" x 7.5" and has 307 pages. The Crime Club was a division of Doubleday Doran & Co., devoted specifically to lovers of detective stories. Members received a new detective novel each month, well in advance of publication, and for the price of $1.00 per copy with an annual subscription! The condition is VeryGood+, with a VeryGood dustjacket. There
is faint bumping and rubbing at the corners and edges, however
the cover is otherwise almost like new. The dustjacket has a
bit of light creasing at the extreme top and bottom edges, with
two closed 1/4" tears and a 1/16" chip at the bottom
of the spine, but is otherwise crisp, clean and complete. The
binding is intact, as are both hinges. There is a blacked-out
area 3/4" x 2.5" in the UR corner of the front-free
flyleaf! (Though we deplore this practice, there have always
been a few people who were very determined that their name and
address not fall into the hands of others... long before identity
theft became a fashionable way to defraud!) Continuing...the
rear-free flyleaf has a previous owner's sticker in the UL corner,
a penned numeral (577), and a paper remnant. The inside rear
cover has a bookseller's stamp discreetly at the bottom edge.
Finally, a former owner apparently used a thin strip of paper
tape to hold the dustjacket to inside of the cover. Consequently,
though the tape has been largely removed, there is a remnant
left on both the jacket flaps and the inside of the covers.
My experience tells me that a few minutes with a damp Q-tip would
allow one to lift these remnants with little residue. An explanation
of how this is accomplished will be found in the "Tips"
section on this website. |
