#S-3 - Longview (Washington) by John M. McClelland, Jr. - Binfords & Mort, Portland, Oregon, 1949 - First Edition, Signed - $45.00

This book was written by the editor of the Longview Daily News, a man who moved to Longview in 1923, and grew up with this remarkable company town that became an independent, bustling city in the heart of timber country!

Hardbound in blue cloth-covered boards, lettered in black on the front cover and spine, the book measures approx. 6 x 9, it has 158 + x pages. It is illustrated with nearly 3-dozen historic photographs, plus several facsimiles of early posters and brochures. The front endpapers boast a large map of the young city done in a quaint, aerial 3-D perspective style, plus two smaller maps showing its location in relation to Seattle, Portland and Northern California. The book is graced by an illustrated dustjacket, done in a decidedly Art Deco style, that shows a profile of the Long-Bell Lumber Company on the front cover, and a map of NW Oregon and Western Washington on the back cover!

The book and binding are in NearFine condition, with just a hint of rubbing at the corner tips and ends of the spine. There is a gift inscription, dated December 25, 1949, on the verso of the front free flyleaf, facing the half-title page, and the authors signature on the title page. Very light transfer-toning to the endpapers. A a couple of tiny chips and a 1/2" tear at the top of the VeryGood dustjacket, which is otherwise crisp, clean, tight and bright.
