Both front and back endpapers are illustrated with color photographs of various members of the Scallop family, keyed on adjacent pages with their scientific names and the part of the world where they are found. The text is studded with nearly 100 photographs, drawings and maps, the great majority of which are in full color! The chapter list includes: "Shell: A Word's Pedigree"; "The Living Scallop"; "A Symbol in Ancient Times"; "The Badge of St. James"; "The Cradle of Venus" (and other examples of the scallop in art); "Escallops in Armory" (and heraldry); "An Excursion into the Americas" (and examples of the scallop in the art of natives of the western hemisphere); and "The Scallop at the Table" (including several recipes) The book is in VeryGood+ condition, with light bumping and rubbing at the corners and edges and a bit of darkening at the spine. The hinges and internal binding are tight... almost like new. Interior pages are crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete.
