#NF-3 - "Handbook for Scoutmasters", 2nd. Handbook, First Imprint - published by the Boy Scouts of America, 1920 - $125.00

This is a First Edition of the Second BSA handbook for scoutmasters. Softbound in black leatherette, and stamped in gold on the front and spine, it's in remarkable condition! Measuring 4.75" x 7", it has 806 pages. The book is extensively illustrated throughout the text with photographs, drawings, charts, graphs and maps. The book is divided into 3 major sections: (1) Troop Method and Technique; (2) Problems of Reaching Boys; and (3) Scouting - A National Movement. Breaking down the first section, we find: I - Scouting, A National Service; II - Bird's-Eye View of Scouting; III - Early Objectives; IV - Hikes and Meetings; V - Scoutcraft, Alternative Methods; VI - Class Requirements - Standardization; VII - The Scout Troop and Patrol; VIII - Scouting and Community. At the end of the book there is also an Appendix which contains copies of the Troop Charter, Local Council Constitution, Uniform Specifications, Letters from Sir Robert Baden-Powell, Scout Publications and a complete cross-index.

The condition is VeryGood+, with light bumping and rubbing at the extremities, and some darkening of the gold stamping on the cover, and a bit more so on the spine, though both are still fully legible. The former owner's name is written on the front end-paper, with the date (11/9/22). There is a faint damp stain at the outside edge of the first two inside pages. In thumbing through this book I saw a couple of minor finger smudges, and a 1" tear at the top of one page. Other than the foregoing, this book and its pages are crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete with no missing or otherwise damaged pages! Being a collector myself, I would be proud to display this book in any collection or exhibit!
