#C-3 - "Choo-Choo Panorama" - Published by Platt & Munk Co., 1945 - A 10-foot-long Train Book (Riverdale, NJ?) - First Edition - $45.00 This book was published in 1945 by Platt & Munk Co., and is a true First Edition. It is Platt & Munk book # 891. Measuring 8.5" x 10", it has 12 double-sided, illustrated leaves, all connected in such a manner as to allow for one continuous picture of the train, when opened accordion-style. Hardbound in illustrated, paper-covered boards, with a cloth spine, this is the only such panorama we have ever seen. The scene is of a train stopped in "Riverdale", possibly in New Jersey, since the first page shows a bus with a destination sign which shows it to be headed for New York! As one opens the book, it shows the station, locomotive, tender, boxcar, passenger cars, a tank car, circus car, poultry car and livestock car... all crammed with their respective cargoes. These are variously identified as UPRR, Ill.Cent.RR, Penn.RR, SFRR, B&ORR, and NYCRR. The same scene is seen from either side. There is no text. The condition is VeryGood+, with light bumping and rubbing at the corners and edges. The front cover picture of children waving at a streamliner, is lightly soiled and has a light, blind impression of a boys name... as though the name was printed on a piece of paper which was sitting on top of the cover at the time... only visible when viewed under strong oblique light, and even then not very noticeable. Otherwise in NearFine condition, with all other panels crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete! A RARE book and outstanding copy, it is our belief that very few copies of this book exist in anything approaching this condition! |
