#C-39 - "Farm on the Hill" by Madeline Darrough Horn, and Illustrated by Grant Wood - Charles Scribner's Sons, 1946 - $70.00

This book has been illustrated by famed American illustrator, Grant Wood, with frontis and seven other paintings in full color. Grant Wood, probably best known for his painting of a pitchfork-holding farmer and his wife in front of their home... "American Gothic", was a close friend of Mrs. Horn, and expressed a particular desire to illustrate this book. Madeline Horn lived mostly in Iowa, and wrote about pioneer life in the midwest. The story tells of two children who go to visit Grandma and Grandpa on their farm. The grandparents are quite old, but still very active, and live simply... still retaining may of the pioneer ways of doing things. It's quite an education for the city-bred children!

The condition is VeryGood+, with just a hint of darkening of the spine where it was exposed to strong light There are a few thin, blue streaks next to the spine on the back cover, and a former owner's printed bookplate on the inside front cover. Otherwise the book is like-new... crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete!
