#C-15 - "Dahn of the Pearl Country" by Phyllis Sowers - Albert Whitman, 1939 - First Edition - Color Illust. by Margaret Ayer - $20.00 The story of Dhan, the son of a Cingalese pearl diver in the country then known as Ceylon, but which is now called Sri Lanka. Tragedy strikes the family and Dahn has to go to work to help support the family. Through many adventures, he and his sister join a band of gypsies and see much of their country in the process. Hardbound in tan cloth with a full-size color illustrated paste-on, the book measures 7" x 9" and has 125 pages. There are 8 full-page, full-color illustrations plus a couple dozen more smaller illustrations throughout the text. The endpapers are fully illustrated in color with a scene of boats sailing offshore. The book is in VeryGood condition, with bumping and rubbing at the corners and edges and a few spots of soil along the spine. The binding and hinges are tight. Interior pages are crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete with NO faults whatever! |
