#C-29 - "Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carroll - John Tenniel Illustrations - Published by Random House, New York, - $8.00 Hard-bound in illustrated and decorated paper-covered boards with a red cloth spine, the book measures approx. 5.25" x 8.25" and has 166 pages. The story is a timeless favorite of children everywhere, and traces some wonderful adventures of Alice. It is also filled with some of the most charming and well-loved children's poems ever written... my two favorites being "The Jabberwocky" and "The Walrus and the Carpenter"! The last page is a poem, which when the first letters of each line are read vertically downwards, reads "Alice Pleasance Liddell... the name of the original ALICE! The text is liberally sprinkled with more than 50 of John Tenniel's original illustrations, expertly colored by Fritz Kredel in the manner of the time the book was originally written! The condition of the book is VeryGood+, with very light bumping
and rubbing at the corners and edges, but without any outright
tears or worn-through spots. Otherwise the book is crisp, clean,
tight, bright and complete, inside and out!!. Of all the more
recent editions of this book, this is my favorite because of
the added enjoyment the expertly colored Tenniel illustrations
lend to it! |
