#C-52 - "Midnight and Jeremiah" by Sterling North - Illustrated by Kurt Wiese - John C. Winston, 1943 - First Edition - $20.00

A never-to-be-forgotten story of a boy and his black lamb, "Midnight". Warm and satisfying, it is rich in the language, craftsmanship, folklore, songs, dances and life of the hill people. It tells the story of Jeremiah and how he raised his black lamb to win a blue ribbon at the fair, and then how the lamb was frightened into running away. Jeremiah's search for him, which ends in a surprising way on Christmas Eve, is as touching a story as any to be found in literature. Hardbound in heavy brown cloth stamped in red and black on the front cover and spine. The book measures approx. 6.75" x 9" and has 127 pages. Kurt Wiese's charming illustrations will seem familiar who have loved other books illuminated by this outstanding and popular artist. Front and back endpapers are fully illustrated in color. Plus, there are more than 60 illustrations throughout the text, 16 of which are in full color!

The condition is VeryGood+, in a Fair dustjacket. The book shows only very light bumping and rubbing at the corners and edges. The dustjacket is chipped at the corners and top and bottom of the spine. There are some finger smudges inside, but these are mostly concentrated towards the front of the book. The binding is tight, and otherwise the book is crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete.
