#OZ-5 - “The Royal Book of OZ” - by Ruth Plumly Thompson - 1921 - $125.00

Reilly and Lee Co., Chicago, 1921. Hardcover. No Dustjacket, as published. Book Condition: Good. John R. Neill illustrations.

The 1st of Ruth Plumly Thompson’s continuations of the OZ books created by L. Frank Baum, “... in which the Scarecrow goes to search for his family tree and discovers that he is the Long Lost Emperor of the Silver Island, and how he was rescued and brought back to OZ by Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion” (from the title page).

Bound in blue cloth, this edition was published after 1921, but before 1935, (as determined Hanff, Greene, et al. “Bibliographia Oziana”). It has all 12 of Neill’s wonderful original color plates, plus dozens of his b&w illustrations too. The paste-down color illustration on the front cover is bright and in very good condition with a few light scratches and some light rubbing at the edges, and some light soil, text block is intact and tight, hinges are broken but intact, illustrated front and back end-papers, a few small foxing spots in the page margins, and a hint of toning in at the top. There are a half-dozen pages with about 1” of the LR corner missing, and a couple of other tears. NO other faults noted.
