#C-32 - "Shoes and Ships and Sealing Wax" by
Ethel Clere Chamberlin - Pictures by Janet Laura Scott - Published
by Saalfield, 1927 - $15.00
Hard-bound in illustrated, paper-covered boards with a red
cloth spine, in an unclipped dustjacket. This is a series of
11 short stories... all true... told by a Great Grandfather to
young Bobby and Sue. They have titles like Penguins, Tipping
the Hat, About Thimbles, The Printing Press, The First Sunday
School, The Atlantic Cable, About Pine, From Pine Knots to Electric
Lights, How the Beavers Saved a Town, Sealing Wax, and About
Totem Poles! Beautifully written by Ethel Clere Chamberlain,
it is illustrated with 4-dozen illustrations, of which 21 are
in full-color and 4 of these being double-page!! Stories to
delight any child or adult, in a comfortable narrative style
that is a joy to read!
The condition of the book is VeryGood, with light bumping
and rubbing at the corners and edges of the cover, with the underlying
boards just peeking out at the corner tips. The binding is intact
and tight, and the interior pages are crisp, clean, tight and
complete with only a couple of faint handling smudges noted as
we thumbed through the pages. The dustjacket is in Good condition,
with a 1/2" x 1" chip missing at the top of the spine,
and very small chips at 3 of the corners and the bottom of the
spine. It is secure from further damage in its protective mylar
jacket cover. Otherwise it is crisp, clean and without other
faults. A truly charming book, illustrated in the Art Deco Style,
and one that anyone would be proud to own and display!
