#OZ-1 - Original Color Bookplate from "Dorothy and the Wizard in OZ" by L. Frank Baum - Matted and backed... ready to frame - $15.00

This print is from an early edition of "Dorothy and the Wizard in OZ", (Reilly & Britton, 1908). The print shows the Wizard greeting Dorothy and Betsy. All OZ books printed up to 1935 had some color plates. This book originally had 16 color plates, inserted facing the title page and pages 16, 34, 50, 60, 80, 100, 122, 138, 146, 164, 192, 210, 220, 244 and 252 (information from "Bibliographia OZiana" by Halff, Greene et al, 1988). We have had many people, over the years, buy specific prints to reinsert in copies of their old OZ books from which one or more color prints were missing. This print was found with a San Francisco area print dealer, who explained that it had been salvaged from a "broken" copy of the book. OZ books in such condition were not uncommon, since children's books in those days were not expensively bound, and OZ books have very frequently been "read to death"! A delightful way to decorate your childs room and offer him/her many hours of inspirational and imaginative thought.

The image area is approx. 5" x 7", and it has been matted and backed, using acid-free materials, to an overall size of 11" x 14", a standard size. This means that one could easily and inexpensively frame the print using any of the off-the-shelf frames made for that size, and available at Wal-Mart, Target, or other big-box stores. The print has also been shrink-wrapped for protection. The large label in the UR corner is on the outside of the shrink-wrap which, of course, would be removed prior to inserting in a frame.

The condition of both mat and print is FINE, with NO faults whatever!
