#RP-6 - "Mummichog, et al" by Sherman F. Denton - 1902 Chromolithograph print - 9" x 12", framed - $45.00 This true-to-life chromolithograph print was part of a set published in 1902. Denton was a principal artist to the New York State Forest, Fish and Game Commission. A master of the art, his prints are becoming more and more scarce, and are avidly sought-after! The 4 fish are the Mummichog, Fall Fish, Black Nosed Dace and Common White Sucker. All are delicately colored, as with all chromolithographs, by successive applications of carefully registered stones, each applying its specific color... black, grey, blue, yellow, pink and red... each standing alone here, or blending with another there, to form the subtle shade differences that help to identify the unique tints of each species as they looked in life! The print resides behind glass in a good quality gilded frame. The print is in VeryGood+ condition, with two small, very
light pressure bends, in the white area between the upper fish
and the lower ones, that are barely visible upon close inspection
with oblique light. Otherwise the print is crisp, clean, bright
and without other fault. The frame is in VeryGood+ condition,
with two tiny chips (1/16" for one and 1/8" for the
other) at the outside edge of the UL and LL corners. These could
be easily touched-up. Otherwise it's ready to hang. |
