#PLM-2 - Pore Lil' Mose: He Comes to New York - by R.F. Outcault - Copyright by The New York Herald Co., 1902 - 10" x 14" image, matted - $75.00

This piece is an original Chromolithograph print from the book, published in 1902, and was printed on high-quality paper. It is not to be confused with the same image which originally appeared in a syndicated series by the artist in the New York Herald Sunday newspapers from about 1899 through 1902. Newspapers are printed on newsprint and, in contrast to the uniform white of the high quality paper upon which this book was printed, those newspapers have all yellowed with age over the past century (a result of the acidic nature of all-pulp papers). The book was published by the Grand Union Tea Company, Brooklyn Borough, N.Y..

This installment tells of Mose and his friends (Bear, Cat, Monkey and Dog), their trip to New York and what happened when they arrived. All this is written, in Mose's "hick" style, in the form of a rhyme, and sent to his mammy in Cottonville, Georgia. The New York Herald copyright notice is seen in the LL corner.

The condition is NearFine, with a couple of light spots in the UL corner slightly above Mose's travel bag. There are no other faults, and the lithography and colors are crisp and bright! It is mounted in an archival quality, 14" x 18" double mat and backing board, and then shrink-wrapped for protection. It is ready to frame, or simply hang on your wall as it is. It is accompanied with a photocopy of the copyright page of the book (not shown), which is mounted inside the shrink-wrap on the back side of the backing board.
