#RP-11 - ARTHUR SZYK - "The United States of America" ... also, "Poland", "England", "China", "U.S.S.R.", "Canada", "China", or "Switzerland" - $35.00 each

These were done over a period from 1945 - 1948, and are photogravure prints on rag-paper. Image size is 6.5" x 8", matted to 11" x 14". Szyk (pronounced Shick) was a Polish-born Jew who fled his native country in the wake of Hitler's invasion of Poland in 1939. He emmigrated to the U.S. and settled in New Canaan, Connecticut, where he continued his artistic career until his death in 1953.

These are four of a group of illustrations commissioned to grace a series of specialized stamp albums published by Kasimir Bileski of Winnipeg, Canada. During his years in the U.S., Szyk became known and loved by millions of Americans, for his pointedly satyrical cartoons of Hitler, Mousilini and Hirohito during WWII. He was much in demand as an advertising, book and magazine illustrator, and also the designer of postage stamps for Israel and Liberia.

The condition of each is fine with no faults noted.  We are unable to adequately show the amazing detail in each of these.  If interested in a specific print, and would like a close up scan of a particular part of that print, we invite you to email us with that information and we will do our best to provide you with an image that will show you the detail mentioned above.
