#OM-13 - May 1945 "Air Ace" Magazine - $12.00 This short-lived and unusual item is actually part magazine, and part comic book. It was designed to showcase whatever was new and interesting in the rapidly developing world of flight, and written for children age 10 and up. Originally published under the title "Bill Barnes Comics", which was later changed to "Bill Barnes America's Air Ace Comics", and finally to just "Air Ace". It's total period in publication was from 1940-1947. Measuring approx. 6.75" x 10.5", it has 52 pages. It is packed with stories of real people involved with aviation, a retrospective of Boeing's first 25 years of growth, another piece about Pan American's new Douglas DC-7, "98 Hours to the Moon" (in comic form) which looks at the physics of making such a trip, a look at Northrup's P-61, and much more! The condition is VeryGood, with a couple of light bends, light
bumping and rubbing at the corners and top edge, and a 2"
closed tear at the top of the back cove, which has been repaired
with an archival-grade, non-staining and nearly invisible tape.
The two innermost, centerfold pages are loose from their staples.
Otherwise the magazine is crisp, clean, bright and complete! |
