#I1-1 - The American Stamp - Vol. I, No. 1 - January, 1889 - A Monthly Magazine in the Interest of Philately, published by D.B. Crockett, Newark, N.J. - $15.00

A pretty remarkable first effort as philatelic magazines go. This FIRST ISSUE has many thoughtful articles dealing with stamps (including revenues) and postal history. I was particularly impressed with the article titled "Private Mail from Cimmarron Territory", dealing with an area thought of as being part of the Indian Territory, but which was actually outside of any state or territory boundaries. Another article deals with the subject of "washed" stamps being re-used. I guess some things never change!

Measuring 6.25" x 10", there are 12 pages plus the covers. The condition is VeryGood, with a hint of soil, light bumping of the corners and a couple of less-than-1/4" tears. A vertical file fold is consistent with having been mailed, folded, in a paper wrapper for protection.
