#I1-10 - The Philatelic Californian - Vol. I, No. 1 - October, 1893 - Published Monthly by the California Philatelic Press Club, San Francisco - $20.00 Of interest in this Premier Issue are the following articles: 1) A List of the Retouched Dies of the 1884 U.S.A. Envelopes; 2) Philatelic Societies and Journalism in California; 3) The Luff Collection; 4) a list of "Errors and Varieties of United States Adhesives from 1847 to 1890; and many more. There are many quaint ads, and one full-page ad offering to buy Columbian stamps for some pretty fantastic prices! It was possible to be the recipient of a parcel, and find a buyer of the Columbians on that package at something better than 50% of face value of some denominations! The size is 6" x 9" and there are 16 pages plus the covers. A very light stain at the UL, and a stamp on the first inside page which reads "Sample" are the only faults. There is a soft, vertical file-fold, consistent with this having been sent through the mails in a wrapper. Otherwise, the condition inside and out is NearFine! |
