#OM-24 - October 4, 1938 “PIC” Magazine - $10.00

Measuring approx. 10” x 13.5”, this magazine has 48 pages... this being the first issue in which all 3 major focuses of the magazine, Sport, Broadway and Hollywood, were all combined into a single magazine. Like “LIFE”, “PIC” was about the candid photographs, taken by their own photographers, that tell the behind-the-scenes stories that are only alluded to in other publications (the magazine’s words, not mine). Articles include “It All Started Forty-three Years Ago” - referring to the first motion picture (French) shown in 1895; “Back to Nature is the Bunk!” - as Marie Wilson and Janet Shaw are photographed on location for “Boy Meets Girl; “Wanted... A Bride for Ty(rone Power), a Groom for Merle” (Oberon) - studio looks for just the right person to play opposite the two stars. “Slapsie Maxie” - about prizefighter Maxie Rosenbloom; “Orchids to You” - goes behind stage with stripper Faith Bacon, whose gimmick was covering up with a couple of orchids! “The First Lady of the Theater” is about Helen Hayes; “Adagio” - about contortionist Betty Whelan and her husband Maurice; “Hat Check Girls” is just what this article is about; “Robert Riggs - the Bad Boy of Tennis” - a close-up photo; “The Colonel’s Lady and Judy O’Grady” - a day at the horse races; “World Series Heroes and Goats”... looks at the high and low-ranked players from 1931-1937. “Berger Averages 26.91 M.P.H.” - is about the annual Soap-Box Derby Race. and “He Must Be Good” - about high school football sensation Bill De Correvant, who ultimately signed with Northwestern University.

The condition is FINE. That says it all, for we can’t find a single fault with this magazine!
