#I1-17 - Wild Flowers of America - The Botanical Fine Art Weekly, published by G.H. Buek & Co, New York - Vol. I, No. 1 - May 15, 1894 - $30.00

Wild Flowers of America was a special subscription publication of very short duration. Originally planned to be a continuing publication, with a new issue appearing weekly, there were only a couple-dozen issues before its demise. The format was essentially the same for all of the issues: there were 3 pages of text plus one page with a b&w illustration by Maud Humphrey, followed by 8 pages of color plates, each page consisting of 2 beautiful chromolithograph prints of wildflowers, and each page backed with a complete text description of the plant pictured on the front, including its habitat, seasons and growth characteristics. Each issue has a total of 16 chromolithograph prints, each approx. 4" x 6.5". Following the prints are another 5 pages of text including a glossary of terms used in the descriptions. The front and back covers have color illustrations by noted children's artist , Maud Humphrey, who incidentally was the mother of Humphrey Bogart!

The size is 12" x 8.5" and there are 28 pages plus the covers. The overall condition is Fair-Good. The front cover, which is detached, has corners and edges rounded and chipped, with a few pieces missing and a couple of tears at the edges. It's also darkened with age, has 4 damp-stains up to approx. 1" in diameter and a crease in the UR corner. The back cover, with an exquisite, full-page Maud Humphrey illustration (pictured), is in VeryGood+ condition and would be beautiful framed. The interior pages, though the corners and edges still have some lesser problems, are otherwise in VeryGood condition, with no problems affecting the 8 pages of color illustrations which are all of framing quality with plenty of white space around each print.
