#CiM-1 - 1939 Map of the city of Detroit & vicinity - 19.5” x 31” - $25.00 This almost 70-year-old map was compiled and drawn by Sauer Bros., and printed by Keystone Press of Detroit, Michigan. The main map includes, in addition to Detroit proper, the smaller cities and communities of Dearborn, Allen Park, Lincoln Park, Melvindale, Ecorse, River Rouge, Grosse Pointe Park, Gross Pointe, Gross Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Shores, Hamtramk, Highland Park, St. Clair Shores, East Detroit, Van Dyke Base Line, Hazel Park, Ferndale and Oak Park. There is also a map of the Downtown Detroit area... showing Street Car Lines and Bus Lines marked in red, with each of the stops noted with a numeral, which corresponds to a listing of the name of that specific line! The opposite side of the map is a larger scale map of Downtown Detroit, ranging from Jefferson Ave. to Adams Avenue and Cass Avenue to Randolph St. Every street and block is to scale (with that scale shown along Grand Circle Park East), and large enough that almost every specific business (or point of interest) and its address is listed in its respective location. This alone is most unusual, a feature we’ve not seen on any other map that’s ever passed through our hands... not to mention a great help to historians!! The map measures 19.5” x 31”, and folds into a red card cover measuring approx. 4” x 7.5”. The condition is NearFine, with a 1” split along one file fold, which we have professionally repaired using Filmoplast-P, an archival grade, non-staining, nearly invisible paper tape that will never yellow. There are some creases at the top and bottom of the cover, and a 1/2” light pink mark over the piece of property belonging to the Greyhound / Blue Goose Terminal. Otherwise this map is crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete, and either side would be suitable for framing!
