#SM-12 - 1920s Map of Colorado - 18” x 22” - $25.00

This map was published by Mid-West Map Company of Aurora, Missouri, and is titled “Station Number, Authorized Guide and Map Service of Colorado”. Printed in blue & white, it is a typical road map in the sense that it shows the typical numbered federal and state highways, cities and towns, mountains and rivers, etc. However there are also additional numbers which relate to a list of service centers found on the reverse side. These would include hotels, car camps, restaurants, gas stations, repair shops and automobile agencies, plus a few other miscellaneous businesses, all of which purported to offer goods or services of interest to motorists. Also on the reverse side from the map, is a listing of cities and towns, with their coordinate positions on the map, along with their populations at the time of publication. The date of publication is not given, but an online search has indicated that the publisher was in business from the late 1920s through the 1930s.

The map measures approx. 18” x 22”. Its size, folded is approx. 5.5” x 8.75”. You will find the reading of the advertising comments appended to each business listing to be quaint and in many instances humorous, in addition to being quite educational as to what the writers thought would be of interest to the needy motorist of that period in history!

The condition of the map is VeryGood+, with a couple of small tears that have been repaired, using Filmoplast-P, a nearly invisible, non-staining tape used by conservators and libraries to repair and stabilize important documents and books. In addition to the file folds (as published), there are a few other creases, with are mostly confined to the margins, and have little effect on the enjoyment of this map. Otherwise you’ll find it to be crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete.
