#CiM-2 - 1949 Map of New York City and vicinity - 16.5” x 28” - $18.00 This item is titled Visitor’s Guide to New York, and was published by the Geographic Map Co., N.Y.C., for the N.Y. Convention and Visitors Bureau. The map itself covers all of Manhattan, and portions of the boros of Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and that portion of the New Jersey shore on the Hudson River that sits across from Manhattan. The map is printed in red, blue, green, yellow and black on white... and, using icons resembling the structures themselves, identifies the locations of many major skyscrapers, the U.N., cathedrals, sports arenas, museums, colleges, universities, concert halls, hospitals, bridges, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, amusement parks and more. Subway lines and stations are shown, Battery and Lincoln tunnels, ferry lines and the Hudson & Manhattan tubes are also marked, and parks are colored green and named. All of these are keyed to listings in the margins that include addresses, and a numeral against a circular pink background (if the actual structure is not shown)! The opposite side lists (under helpful headings) and describes various points of interest... several of which are augmented with photos. These are grouped according to whether they appear in Uptown, Midtown or Downtown. Lastly, there is a facsimile letter and photo of (then) Mayor William Dwyer. Open, the map measures 16.5” x 28”, and folds down to approx. 3.5” x 8”. The condition is FINE... like new... with NO faults that we could discern.
