#SOM-10 - 1937 Standard Oil Map of Oregon - $15.00 Measuring 18” x 24”, and folding down to 4” x 9”, this map shows all of Oregon, and portions of California, Nevada, Idaho and Washington lying adjacent. The reverse side has a map of the entire U.S., plus maps of Crater Lake & vicinity, Eugene and Salem. A map of Portland shows such features as its Airport still being on Swan Island, a larger area comprising Union Stockyards than in the 1939 or 1946 maps, the Riverton Sportsdome is not shown yet (but does appear on the 1939 map above), and Council Crest is shown as an Amusement Park (whereas it is only shown as a park on the 1939 map! The really striking thing about the main map is that only U.S. Highways 99, 199, 101 and 30 are fully paved along their entire lengths within the state. U.S. Highways 97, and 28 still have one or more stretches that are graded gravel, and 395 doesn’t even exist for many miles north of John Day! The same proportions are true of state highways, and most lesser roads are either gravel or dirt! The condition is NearFine, with a small spot and bit of light handling soil along the edges showing when the map is fully folded. Otherwise this map is fresh, crisp, clean, bright and complete!
