#SOM-5 - 1935 Standard Oil Map of California - 18” x 32” - $25.00 This map was published by the H.M. Gousha Company, for the Standard Oil Company of California. Printed in red and dark blue on on tan with medium blue used for lakes and oceans, stippled blue used for national forests, and with National Parks and Monuments outlined in pink. Note that this map was produced long before construction was begun on freeways, and thus show a very different view of how people moved between major population centers. The backside of the map has maps for Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Yosemite N.P. and Sequoia N.P., plus a major highway map of the U.S. west of the Rocky Mountains. There is also a California Mileage Chart, showing the distance between major cities . (It might be interesting to compare these mileages with those now possible by using the freeway system.) Measuring approx 18” x 32”, the folded size is approx. 4” x 9”. The condition is VeryGood+, with a bit of light bumping and rubbing at the corners and edges, and a hint of light handling soil on the two outside panels, as seen when the map is folded. Otherwise, the map is crisp, clean, tight, and complete!
