#TOC-11 - 1938 Texaco Map of Alabama - 21” x 28” - $12.00 This map was published by Rand, McNally & Company, for the Texaco Oil Company. Printed in red, dark blue, green and yellow on pale yellow, it features a map of Alabama, with portions of Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. There are also smaller local maps of Birmingham, Chattanooga, Mobile, Montgomery and Pensacola. The opposite side features a 22” x 22” sectional trip map of the region stretching from Houston to Columbia, Georgia, and New Orleans to Chicago. The map is printed in green, with distances given in bold red numerals along a fine dotted line stretching between the individual towns and cities. Very easy to determine trip mileages at a quick glance... a feature not generally seen on most maps! It should come as a surprise to no one that, at this time, that significant portions of some federal and state highways in the state were still shown as only being improved with gravel, shell, sand clay or stone. Lesser rural roads are largely shown as dirt on this map... either graded or ungraded! Measuring approx. 22” x 28”, the folded size is approx. 3.5” x 7.25”. The condition is VeryGood+, with nothing more than a small corner crease and a hint of light handling soil on the two exposed panels and edges... as seen when the map is in its folded state (see our scan). Otherwise this map is crisp, clean, tight, bright and complete... one you’d be proud to display!
