#MIS - 16 - ORIGINAL HANDWRITTEN SCORE - “COWPUNCHERS BALL” by ANTON LADA! - $35.00

This score is on a standard 4-page scoring sheet published by Rayner Dalheim & Co., Chicago, each page of which measures 9.5” x 12.25” folded, and opens to 19” x 12.25”, like most sheet music. Three of the 4 pages and filled with the score and lyrics, the back page being blank. Typewritten to the right of the typed title (see above) is “Words & Music By ANTON LADA”, and just below this is “Jan 9, 1942”. Other typewritten notations include: (1) the lyrics, (2) “Tempo De Push It” just above the signatures of the score, and (3) “COPYRIGHT BY ANTON LADA - MUSIC PUBLISHER” at the bottom of the first page.

Anton Lada was primarily known as a Jazz bandleader... fairly small combos of 5-6 men. From various other Lada materials we have handled, it appears that in addition to Dixieland style jazz, over his career they also evolved into other jazz forms, boogie, swing, fox-trots and blues. We’ve seen evidence they were on the scene from the early 1920’s through the 1940’s. Beyond that period, we can only speculate. It is doubtful that they traveled much outside of the Midwestern states, and Lada’s own home was in Wisconsin. It is from his daughter that we bought this material. See “Two 1922 Letters to Bandleader Anton Lada...” below.

The condition of the score is NearFine, with a horizontal file fold and a bit of light soil on the back page. Otherwise this piece is crisp, clean, bright and without any other faults!

SPECIAL: All 3 items for $45.00 (#MIS - 15 and #MIS - 16 combined)
