#MP-12 - 3 Original Photographs - Big Lake Camp, Company
1760 of the Civilian Conservation Corps - Cloquet, Minnesota
- 1934 - $35.00 each
2 of these prints measure approx. 8" wide by 32"
long, and show (1) the members of the camp as they gather on
the snow in front of what look like army troop transport trucks,
and (2) a panorama birds-eye view of the camp as summer approaches,
and showing bunk houses and the Hospital. The first was taken
January 9, 1934, the second was taken May 29, 1934. The photographer
of both was G.O. Mehl.
The 3rd photo shows a panorama of the camp in winter, with
a few of the workers cavorting outdoors. Identified in this
photo are the Headquarters building on the left and the Mess
Hall on the right. This photo is the same width, but only 28.5"
long. Note that the background of both winter scenes is hazy,
but the foregrounds are well defined.
These photos have been rolled most of their life, and though
there are a few bends in the glossy face, no paper has been lost
as a result. What they most need is to be backed and framed,
and they will present a great slice of what life was like during
the Great Depression in CCC camps!
The condition ranges from Good+ to VeryGood. Print #1 has
a 1" tear in the middle right-hand margin, and a few other
edge faults such as smudges and bends. Print #2 has only 2 bends
and has much sharp detail both in the foreground and background!
Print #3 has a 3/4" tear at the left margin, and a vertical
crease running from top to bottom about 1.5" in from the
right-hand edge. There are a half-dozen other shorter and less
serious bends along the top and bottom edges.
