#PP-18 - "Elan" - an original photograph by Paul Paree - Signed by the photographer - 1967 - $950.00 This is an original photograph by Paul Paree, Los Angeles photographer and artist who, with his partner Paul Martin Gerdes, was a major contributor to the Los Angeles Times "HOME" magazine in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980's. Their photography was also featured in other magazines, including VOGUE, and in exhibitions at the California Museum of Science and Industry and other museums and galleries in the South land. Their work has found honored places in the homes of some of Hollywood and L.A.'s best known families, in addition to residing in several museums, including the Getty Museum in West Los Angeles! At auction, several of their photos have sold at figures in the $1500-2000+ range at Butterfield's in San Francisco! Elan was somewhat of a cult figure in the 1960s, known for throwing wonderful parties, and when not hosting parties of her own, the life of other people's bashes! At last report from Paul, she is still alive and a costume designer in the L.A. area. As Paul related to me in a letter, which will accompany this photo when sold, he had no idea of what he was going to paint on Elan's face until he actually got started. As he put it... "I began at the bridge of her nose, and the design just sort of took on a life from there". The photograph measures 7.75" x 9.75", and is mounted on a piece of black mat board with a foam-core backing, to a finished size of 20" x 20", and then shrink-wrapped for protection. Paul's signature in the LR corner of the photo is in black ink. As with all our offerings, we unconditionally guarantee both the authenticity of the photograph and Paul's signature! The condition is NearFine, with a half-dozen very slight ripples
at the right-hand edge. The mat board is bumped and rubbed at
the edges, but this should largely, if not completely disappear
upon framing. |
