#AP-9 - Autographed Photo of W.C. HANDY! - $850.00 Inscribed "To Anton Lada Seasons Greetings W.C. Handy 1936-7." in blue fountain-pen. Handy is considered to be the father of BLUES and had a major influence on expanding the acceptance of African Americans into the mainstream of the entertainment industry. Lada was a White contemporary of his, the leader of a JAZZ band... "Lada's Louisiana Five". Both Handy and Lada were popular entertainers on the nightclub circuit from the deep South up through St. Louis to Chicago and Detroit, etc. This photo and and others, plus many other paper collectibles were purchased from Lada's daughter in Wisconsin. For anyone interested, we have several brochures and other materials related to Lada and his career. This 8" x 10" photograph, is in NearFine condition. The only faults worth mentioning are a small nick in the LR margin and small creases in the UL and LR corners, all being totally contained within the white margin.
