#PP-19 - "Venus' Lips" - an original color photograph by Paul Paree - 15.75" x 16" - 1975 - $1250.00

This is an original photograph by Paul Paree, Los Angeles photographer and artist who, with his partner Paul Martin Gerdes, was a major contributor to the Los Angeles Times "HOME" magazine in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980's. Their photographs were also featured in other magazines, including VOGUE, and in exhibitions at the California Museum of Science and Industry and other museums and galleries in the South land. Their work has found honored places in the homes of some of Hollywood and L.A.'s best known families, in addition to residing in several museums, including the Getty Museum in West Los Angeles! At auction, several of their photos have sold at figures in the $1500-2000+ range at Butterfield's in San Francisco!

This particular photograph was part of the Vita e Morte Series, or more recently referred to as the the Venus Series. This photograph was part of an exhibition at the California Museum of Science and Industry that year! The photograph is mounted on a piece of Carter Board, a product of Carter Sexton, 5308 Laurel Canyon Blvd., No. Hollywood, California. Affixed to the back of the board is a 1" x 4" sticker which Paul was kind enough to send me, which reads: "18. Venus Series (vita e morte) 'Venus' Lips' - Paul Paree 1975, Paul Martin Gerdes assist. - Paree-Gerdes Studios" The "18" refers to the photograph's position in the exhibition. We came by it and much other material of theirs and other artists, through a large purchase from the estate of Stuart Iverson, former Artistic Director at the California Museum of Science and Industry.

The condition is NearFine, with some light bumping and rubbing at the corners, however this should completely disappear upon framing. The photograph itself is absolutely pristine. It has been shrink-wrapped for protection. As with all our offerings, we unconditionally guarantee the authenticity and provenance of this piece. The purchaser will also receive a copy of a letter in which Paul describes the circumstances whereby this series came about.
