#AKP-15 - “Seldovia, 1914” - $40.00

One of more than 100 photos we purchased from the estate of Mrs. W. B. Whitfield, who, in 1900, traveled to Ketchkan, Alaska with her dentist husband, who set up practice in that city. According to her daughter she was also the photographer. The photo measures approx. 3.5” x 5.75”, including the black border. The caption above is written in ink on the back side of the card. The building, just below the island in the mid-background, appears to be a church with a hexagonal or octagonal steeple and spire with bulging base. Among the next group of buildings to the right of the church is a group of about 6 men working on a partially built boat boat shell. There are a couple of other groups of buildings as well... all with outstanding detail. The island appears to have tents and buildings on it as well.

The condition is VeryGood, with small creases at 3 corners, and some chipping of the black border. Otherwise the photo is clean, superbly focused, and with outstanding contrast... one of the sharpest photos in this group!
