#AKP-16 - “Seldovia by Moonlight” - $25.00 One of more than 100 photos we purchased from the estate of Mrs. W. B. Whitfield, who, in 1900, traveled to Ketchkan, Alaska with her dentist husband, who set up practice in that city. According to her daughter she was also the photographer. The photo measures approx. 3.5” x 5.25”. The caption above is written in ink on the back side of the card. It is probably ca. 1914. The buildings in the foreground consist of a 2-story house and a single story dwelling closer to the water behind it. A boat appears to be moored in between those buildings and the group of a half-dozen buildings to the right. Two masts (possible small schooner?) stick up behind the largest building. 3 outhouses are also visible. The condition is Good+, with a large crease about 3/4” in from the right side. Some chipping at the bottom-right margin, and a few other tiny speck-like chips. Otherwise the photo is clean, and very well focused, though slightly under contrasted, due to the only lighting being moonlight. Still... a very nice image and very unusual because of the natural moonlighting!
