#AP-16 - THE ANDREWS SISTERS - Autographed 8" x 10" photograph - Inscribed and signed - "To Hal Herman - We loves ya! - Thanks for everything - 7/16/40 - Maxine - Patty - LaVerne" - $195.00

Hal Herman was a publicity "flack" for Columbia and Universal Studios during the 1920's through the 1950's. This piece being dated, in addition to being signed, is especially nice. The indicia at the bottom of the photo identifies it as having been copyright in 1940 by Universal Pictures Co., Inc.. The thanks is undoubtedly for his efforts at promoting the 3 "bombshell" singers' Universal Pictures films. This photo is probably part of the publicity campaign for "Argentine Nights" (one of their first films), which also starred the Ritz Brothers, Constance Moore, George Reeves, Peggy Moran and others. It comes directly to us from Hal's estate. The entire inscription is sharp and easily legible, in black, fountain pen ink.  In correspondence with a close friend of the Andrews Sisters, we have learned that to ease the chore of signing the many photos that were requested of them, the sisters each signed and inscribed an equal share of the photos at any given time.  This particular photo is inscribed and signed for all three sisters by Maxine, according to this friend.  To say it another way, Maxine's signature is authentic, but she has also signed "Patty" and "LaVerne".  It would be equally possible to find other photographs which had been signed and inscribed by one or the other of the two sisters... and any of these would therefore be of equal value.
