#AKP-14 - “Sitka, Alaska” - a view from the sound - $15.00 One of more than 100 photos we purchased from the estate of Mrs. W. B. Whitfield, who, in 1900, traveled to Ketchkan, Alaska with her dentist husband, who set up practice in that city. According to her daughter she was also the photographer. The photo itself measures approx. 3.25” x 3.25”, and it is mounted on a “cabinet” type, embossed backing card. The caption in quotations above is written in pencil on the back side of the card. It is probably ca. 1910-1915. It looks like two water tanks are to the right of the right-hand building, and the large building at the left appears to be flying a flag. The condition is VeryGood+, with a few dark fly specks at the bottom-left edge, and a small, light stain in the LR corner. Otherwise the photo is clean, with a soft focus, though somewhat under contrasted.
