#RP-4 - "A.K. Longren Up in the Clouds - LaCrosse, Kan. July 24-5-6" - Postmarked Aug. 19, 1912 - $25.00 This card shows an early biplane of the type where the pilot rode in an open seat between the two wings... without benefit of an enclosed cockpit or fuselage. The elevator is at the end of a framework extending out in front, and the rudder is at the end of a similar framework at the rear! A caption below the above inscription reads: "Cottage Studio Photo". The message on the back hints that the writer was up in the plane, and is dated and postmarked, Otis, Kans. on the date given above. It is addressed to the writer's sister in Lowell, Lake Co., Indiana. The condition is VeryGood, with light sepia toning, a very light scratch (doesn't break the paper surface) near the top, and a tiny corner crease at the LL. The corners are slightly rounded, and there are a couple of very light spots of soil near the right-hand edge. Otherwise crisp, clean, well-focused and with a clearly readable message.
