# RP-10 - J.W. Lough views his Irrigated Farm in Scott County, Kansas, Sept. 24, 1914 - Real Photo Postcard by Potter's Studio - Historically important, one-of-a-kind card! - $75.00 Lough is considered to be "The Father of Pump Irrigation in Scott County". This photo was taken just 3-4 years after he installed his first pump and began irrigating part of his land. One can easily see the shocks and stacks of alfalfa, and with a magnifying glass, stands of maise and milo can be seen at left-center. We haven't been able to figure-out what Fetereta is. The complete caption at the bottom of the card reads "Scene on J.W. Lough's Farm, Sept 24, 1914 - Alfalfa in th (sic) shock & stack, Milo, Maise and Fetereta (sic) growing - All irrigated - Scott, Co. Kans. - Potter's Studio". The back of the card bears an AZO imprint with triangles in all 4 corners, all with their points up... supporting the year date. For those unfamiliar with it, (sic) stands for "spelling in context", meaning that the word immediately proceeding is spelled in the caption exactly as quoted. The condition is VeryGood, with small creases in the UR and
LR corners, and a couple of light smudges in the sky. There are
paper remnants in the corners on the backside, where spots of
paste held it down in a scrapbook, however, by following instructions
on this website, the buyer should be able to remove these with
little trace. The front of the card is not affected by these
remnants. It is our policy to leave things in the state in which
they were found, and the choice to do any conservation work up
to the buyer. Otherwise the card is crisp and clean, and would
be one any collector would be proud to display! |
